This page is to go over a general summary of some of our core beliefs, for those who are wondering who we are, and what we're about.
- Ulv Hamre is a strict Heathen tribe. - We see a lot of new folks coming into Heathenry in West Virginia, and often times, because they don't know where to go to, they join up with Covens or other eclectic Pagan groups. There's not enough resources and up to date contacts in the area for newcomers to Heathenry. We're looking to create those resources and make ourselves available to contact. We want to see multiple Heathen* tribes/kindreds appear in the state.
- Ulv Hamre is tribe that wants to get involved, not only the Heathen community, but the living community. - The idea is that our families grow in our communities. If our community is flourishing, then our family will as well. Things like wearing our vests and answering questions when asked about them, charity work, and just making a presence known, gets us out there. We put a face to local Heathenry, and hopefully squash misconceptions that folks may have.
- Ulv Hamre promotes education. - We promote the education of our history, culture, and traditions. We will be setting up workshops, readings, lectures, and other educational events, open to the general public, to educate folks who may be interested in Heathenry.
- Ulv Hamre promotes balance. - Balance is something that we've put into The Ulv Hamre Code. We believe that balance is essentially order, which we are striving for.
- Ulv Hamre promotes Heathenry as a lifestyle, and not just a hobby, or something you do one weekend a month. - We believe that this is a lifestyle and not just some passing phase. Buying a Mjolnir necklace and an Amon Amarth shirt doesn't make you a Heathen.
- Ulv Hamre believes that for every word, there should be a deed. - We don't believe that sitting around and reading, debating, and just talking gets anything done. We believe that if you speak something, you should do it. Putting words into action is an important part of creating a future for our folk.
- Ulv Hamre believes in the ability to adapt. - Adapting is another part of the Code, and probably one of the most important. Adapting goes together with survival. It's something that we need to be able to do to ensure that we continue to flourish.
- Ulv Hamre isn't about politics. - Ulv Hamre law states that you keep your personal politics and your religion separate. The reason we do this, is to ensure that we don't represent ourselves as a whole, what we are individually. On top of that, we believe that once political declarations are introduced in tribal business, and in the tribal setting, it can cause personal motives inside of the group. Our group doesn't do political activism as a tribe, nor do we represent the tribe if politics are involved on a individual level.
- Ulv Hamre doesn't have an open door policy. - While we do promote Heathenry, and growing the community, we don't just let anyone in. The fact is, Ulv Hamre isn't for everyone. We have our own laws, our own traditions, our own strcuture, and our own code. We try to keep the tribe close and on the same page. It's not because we're, "too good", or "too exclusive", but simply that we're looking out for what we have. It's the reason we have a six month hang-around period and a one year probation. It's about being careful who you make an oath to, and who you let around your family. If someone were to make an oath to us, then decide that we're not a priority, and drop off the map for two months, it effects us as a tribe. We feel the six month hang-around is good to get to know someone, and the one year is good to see if they fit well and want to continue with us.
- Ulv Hamre is about family. - We like to have our family and friends come and hang out with the tribe. They are our supporters, and in some sense, apart of the tribe. Keeping those who are important to us around, helps keep things in perspective.
